MP from the governing Georgian Dream party Irakli Mezurnishvili has said that if the Anaklia Development Consortium fails to fulfill parts of its obligations by 15 October 2019, the government of Georgia will re-announce expression of interest regarding the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project.
“Our government has given the highest status to the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project. This is a really important project for our country. It is also important that the project is commercial and the private sector is involved in it. If the Anaklia Development Consortium fails to fulfill parts of its obligations by 15 October 2019, the government of Georgia will be obliged to re-announce expression of interest to reveal a new partner regarding the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project. I'm sure the Anaklia Deep Sea Port will definitely be built. We are eager to do this with the involvement of the private sector. But if the private sector will not be involved in this project, the port will be built by the state through its own budget, the project won't stop,” Mezurnishvili said in an interview with PalitraNews TV program 360 Degrees.
The founders of the TBC Bank, Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze have been formally charged by Georgia’s Prosecutor General's Office for “legalization of illicit income”.
The two are facing a criminal investigation for alleged breaches of money-laundering legislation, involving up to USD 17 million transaction that took place back in 2008.
Mamuka Khazaradze, who is a founder of the Anaklia Development Consortium, announced on July 9 his plans to set up a new public movement in September aimed at “uniting the country and maintaining its independence and liberty.” According to many experts, this public movement will be transformed into a political party and he will take part in the parliamentary elections in 2020.
