NATO has said that Georgia should ensure no loopholes emerge that could help evading the implementation of sanctions applied by Allies against Russia.

"President Putin is paying a high price for his war against Ukraine. In a matter of weeks, he has destroyed decades of economic progress for the Russian people. Allies and partners have imposed unprecedented costs on Russia. We welcome that Georgia has joined the rest of the International Community’s condemnation of Russia’s unprovoked and brutal invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, Georgia should ensure no loopholes emerge that could help evading the implementation of sanctions applied by Allies against Russia," NATO told the Accent.

On April 4 Ukrainian military intelligence accused the Georgian Government of allowing Russia to set up smuggling routes through the country to evade sanctions.

On May 1 Ukrainian military intelligence accused Georgia, as well as Armenia and Azerbaijan of negotiating with Moscow over the reexport of Russian products to international markets.

The Georgian side calls the accusation "completely unfounded and absurd" and demands evidences from Ukraine.
