The Ruling Georgian Dream party has announced the EU-brokered April 19 deal as “annulled".

Vice-chair of the EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee Rasa Jukneviciene told the Accent that the mentioned agreement paves a clear way out of a political impasse.

“I am worried already for some time that Georgian politicians are playing with the future of Georgia. It is very hard to gain acknowledgment as the country at the forefront of EU reforms, but very easy to waste it. Politicians must overcome their disagreements and concentrate on the work needed to be done to move Georgia forward on the European path,” she told the Accent.

According to her, EU assistance for EaP countries is provided on the basis of their progress in reforms and performance.

“Internal political situation, elections, functioning democratic institutions, media freedom etc. are being closely followed and evaluated by the Commission, and the European Parliament, as well as by other international players. Georgian people want their country to become EU and NATO members. Georgian politicians must follow that wish and implement it”, she added.

On July 31Georgian Dream party chair Irakli Kobakhidze said that the ruling party will not return to this agreement:

“It is impossible for us to return to this agreement. If artificial crisis is repeated in the future, we can say from here that we will categorically exclude from signing this type of agreement in the future for one simple reason - such an agreement means a temporary departure from the constitutional framework, which is unacceptable in the future,” Kobakhidze said in an interview with TV Imedi.
