More than 900 people have died in Gaza and thousands more have been injured since Israeli airstrikes began on Saturday, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

"Among the dead are 260 children and 230 women", it said.

Frightened residents of Gaza described bombardments striking residential buildings, hospitals and schools across the enclave amid growing concern over destruction of civilian infrastructure.
