The President of the Baltic Security Foundation Olevs Nikers has positively assessed Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili's decision regarding the Anaklia deep water port.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili revealed on 12 December that the Anaklia deep water port will be built with the government’s participation, which will subsequently own 51% of it.
The Prime Minister noted that an international competition will be announced to select the partners and companies which will participate in the project.
"I think it is positive. I would say, that from the perspective of ownership of the critical infrastructure, establishing a government-controlled enterprise would be the most positive development in this situation. In this situation is critical to avoid major Chinese or Russian investment, which would be most harmful to this endeavor, deep sea ports would be among the most important logistic hubs, which is a matter not only of the future success within trade and economics but also has importance from the perspective of the national security of Georgia," Olevs Nikers told the Accent.
